Project Arts of Plymouth, Inc. Presents the 2008 Summer Concert Series

Plymouth – Project Arts of Plymouth, Inc. is pleased to announce that the title sponsor for the 2008 Wednesday night FREE summer concert series is A. D. Makepeace Company. The series will be known as the River Run Summer Concert Series.
Project Arts spokesperson Lloyd Rosenberg says that: “Our new association with A.D. Makepeace is very exciting because we both share the same vision of giving back to the community.”
River Run is a new village in South Plymouth which will use innovative zoning techniques to permanently protect 1,600 acres of conservation land, using an approach to development which celebrates the natural environment in a traditional New England setting. The Wareham-based A.D. Makepeace Company, the world’s largest cranberry grower, is developing the site the company has owned since the 1950s.
“We see the Project Arts concert series as a wonderful benefit for the residents of Plymouth,” said Michael P. Hogan, president and CEO of the A.D. Makepeace Company. “The community is really fortunate to have music of this caliber available at no charge in such a beautiful setting.”
This year’s featured groups for the series include:
- Soul City, a 10 piece Soul and Dance Band from Boston. No opener for this show. They're that good.
- Dale & the Duds, a perennial favorite Oldies Band, with D.B.s Orchestra opening.
- 2 Chix & a Drum, one of the hottest groups out of Nashville today. Opening will be Jonathan Scott & the Blazing Hearts. This up and coming Country Band, recently won the Nationals for best new artist and best new male vocalist.
- The James Montgomery Band, New England’s pride of Blues and R & B. Susan E. & Bluesliner, featuring Sue Picillo, a gutsy Queen of the blues, reminiscent of Big Mama Thornton, will open.
- C.T.A. (California Transit Authority), featuring Danny Seraphine, founder and drummer of the band, CHICAGO, who has formed a new supergroup with Peter Fish, a six-time Emmy winner, Guitar wizard Marc Bonilla, Mick Mahan(Sophie B. Hawkins), Singer Larry Braggs(Tower of Power) and Keyboardist Ed Roth (Coolio). The Denns, the Austin Texas based, Texas Swing Band, will open.
- Roomful of Blues, one of the finest jump and swing blues bands in the land. Roomful has backed artists like Pat Benetar and Big Joe Turner. Roy Book Binder will open this show. From his years as a musical cohort of the Reverend Gary Davis, Roy has emerged as an elder statesman of story-telling fingerstyle blues.
- ENTRAIN, A Series favorite, this World Beat Band has satisfied the musical tastes of our region for many years. with Felonius Funk as opener.
- Commander Cody and the East Coast Airmen (Hot rod Lincoln, Lost in the Ozone) with Tom Russle from Austin Texas opening.

The concert series runs every Wednesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., from June 25 through August 27, 2008. Concerts take place in Pilgrim Memorial Park (South Park Location), located on the beautiful Plymouth waterfront at the intersection of Water Street and Leyden Street. On clear nights Bill Luzader from the Plymouth Planetarium sets up a telescope for stargazers.
There is ample public parking in and around the concert site. This series is an extremely popular community event drawing many thousands of attendees each summer. Families and children are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs.
This summer, Project Arts will also host the first ever Plymouth Harbor Folk Festival, also FREE, which will run on Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13, 2008 from noon to 7:00 p.m. The festival will be located at the same site as the Wednesday series and will feature Melanie (the Roller Skate Song, Candles in the Rain, etc.), John Pousette-Dart (Amnesia, County Line, Fall on Me), Digney Fignus (The Girl with the Curious Hand), Greg Greenway, with music from his new CD “Weightless”, The Crossroads Bluegrass Band, Tall Heights, as part of their North American Tour, Kerri Powers, Rachel Parsons, and more to be announced.
The Event will also feature hand crafters, the Plymouth Rotary food tent, a village for local non-profit organizations and the Plymouth Farmers Market.
